ECAA Scholarship Program

The ECUAA scholarship program goal is not only to provide funding for its scholars, but to develop a closer interactive relationship with them. Understanding each scholar’s interests and goals has enabled ECUAA staff to select topics for a speaker series, connect scholars in touch with alumni (and non-alumni) in their field of interest, and build a community amongst the group. The integration into ECUAA’s events and activities has also offer the scholars a meaningful way to meet, interact, and thank participants and sponsors of our events for their generous support. Since 2005, the ECU Alumni Association (ECUAA) has awarded 355 scholarships totaling over $575,000!

Applications for scholarships will be accepted online via ECUAWard from November 1– January 31 annually and are evaluated based on: demonstrated leadership, service/volunteerism, and recommendation. Scholarship recipients are announced by the alumni association in early-March. Recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee comprised of members of the ECU Alumni Association Board of Directors. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000.

ECUAA scholars are required to participate in the established program as stated in the ECUAA Scholarship Agreement.

Who is eligible?

Currently enrolled, full-time ECU students.
Students with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Who is not eligible?

Students who currently receive grants and/or scholarships in excess of the cost of attending ECU per year, not including student loans.

Alumni Scholarships

The East Carolina Alumni Association Scholarships

The East Carolina Alumni Association Scholarship is comprised of a several named scholarships (see below) and are awarded to students who meet the above requirements. Students who are currently enrolled at ECU as full-time* students who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible to apply for the East Carolina Alumni Association Scholarships.

Regional Scholarships

The New York Metro Alumni Scholarship
One scholarship awarded to a student who meets the above requirements and is from the New York Metro area.
The Washington/Metro Alumni Scholarship
One scholarship awarded to a student who meets the above requirements and is from the Washington/Metro area.
The Tidewater Virginia Alumni Chapter Scholarship
One scholarship awarded to a student who meets the above requirements and is from the Tidewater, Virginia area.
The Bladen County Alumni Chapter Scholarship
One scholarship awarded to an incoming freshman student who meets the above requirements and is from the Bladen County area.
The Wake County Alumni Scholarship
One scholarship awarded to a student who meets the above requirements and is from the Wake County area.
Dave ’75 and Gail Englert Scholarship
One scholarship awarded to a student who meets the above requirements.

Applications must be complete and recommendation letters must be uploaded by midnight on January 31, annually.

Scholars Program Requirements

Recipients will be part of the ECUAA Scholars Program and must fulfill several requirements.

Formally accept scholarship offer through ECUAWard system
Attend mandatory meeting of all scholars (late February).
Sign the ECUAA Scholarship Agreement form and return to DSSP.
Schedule a meeting with the DSSP to be conducted in March or early April.
Breakfast with the ECUAA Board of Directors (late spring).
Respond to all questions in Scholarship Survey sent to you by the DSSP.
Volunteer at one of the two major scholarship fundraisers – Pirate Alumni Road Race (April) or Purple Gold Golf Open (September)
Participate in videos pertaining to alumni scholarships, scholarship fundraising events, etc. and have headshot taken, at a date to be determined, for use by the association.

Participate in special events/activities throughout the academic year:

Fall Semester

Attend Scholars Kick-Off Party (August).
Attend Alumni awards dinner (Friday evening of Homecoming).
Attend speaker series event and social events
Volunteer at two tailgates events.

Spring Semester

Attend Welcome Back Social (January).
Attend speaker series event and social events

To remain eligible for offered scholarships:

All scholarship offers are considered “pending” until student’s eligibility and good standing with the university has been confirmed each semester and may be amended or rescinded if the student’s eligibility changes.
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00.
Scholars must fulfill the requirements listed above.
Scholars who are non-compliant with the outlined requirements will be notified that their spring award will be canceled in early December.

Alumni Scholarships are credited directly to the student’s fee bill from the Cashier’s Office. Half of the scholarship will be awarded in fall and half will be awarded in spring. If the student does not attend ECU for the following academic year, the scholarship must be forfeited.
