Put some ECU Pirate Pride on your ride and be the envy of everyone on the road! If you’re an alum living in North Carolina or South Carolina, you can make your car very happy with your own official ECU license plate!
North Carolina
The cost for a Pirate plate is just an additional $25 on top of the regular registration fee and of that amount, $15 comes back to ECU to fund scholarships. For an additional $30 ($55 total cost), your Pirate plate can also be personalized with a special message, such as your class year.
To order your North Carolina Pirate plate, go to your nearest DMV office or visit the North Carolina DMV online. Your Pirate plate can be purchased through any DMV office in North Carolina with Form MVR-27C or online.
South Carolina
East Carolina University official South Carolina license plates are $70 every two years in addition to the registration fee and $40 of the special plate fee comes back to ECU to support scholarships!
- You may use the Application for Special Plate (SCDMV Form MV-95) to apply for this plate.
- This plate can be purchased for cars or light trucks with an empty weight of 9,000 pounds or less and a gross vehicle weight of 11,000 pounds or less.
- This plate is available through the mail using Form MV-95 and online.
North Carolina State Plates:
The cost is just an additional $25 on top of the regular registration fee and of that amount, $15 comes back to ECU to fund scholarships.
For an additional $30 (making your total $55), the plate can be personalized with a special message, such as your class year. You can check the availability of special messages at the DMV website.
South Carolina State Plates:
South Carolina license plates are $70 every two years in addition to the registration fee and $40 of the special plate fee comes back to ECU to support scholarships!
In North Carolina, the $25/$55 special fee is an annual fee due in addition to the regular license fee.
For South Carolina, the $70 is every two years in addition to the registration fee.
North Carolina returns $15 of the special fee to ECU, while South Carolina receives $40 of the special fee.
Various states offer collegiate license plates. Currently North Carolina and South Carolina offer official programs where a portion of the registration fee comes back to the university for scholarship purposes. Check with your local DMV to see if your state offers an ECU plate.
